Press Release Summary = A staple food of the Amazonian Indians for centuries is
making a name for itself as a superfood it has been claimed. The Acai Berry
(pronounced ah-sigh-ee), which grows on a palm tree in the Amazonian basin, has been
used by locals for centuries.

Press Release Body = It is now starting to find recognition around the world due to
the nutritional value the fruit offers. It was first imported into the US in 1999
and is now one of the most requested ingredients in the fruit juice and smoothie
sector there.

Anothcyanins such as cyanidin-3-glucoside are found in the Acai Berry in elevated
quantities. The so-called French Paradox that is attributed to red wine originates
from the cardiovascular and cholesterol management benefits that come from the
anthocyanins found in red wine. "The level of these anthocyanins in the Acai Berry
are 30 times higher than red wine" - Mike Law, http://www.whatismonavie.com/mikelaw

These anthocyanins are also regarded as very efficient natural antioxidants.
Antioxidants are known to scavenge the free radicals that are precursors to serious
diseases such as cancer. Consuming natural products rich in anthocyanins is
considered a very good way of boosting antioxidant behaviour in the human body.

The Acai Berry is also a fruit rich in essential fatty acids. The proportion of
these unsaturated fats (omega 6 and omega 9) is very similar to that of olive oil.
These essential fatty acids are known to promote HDL (good) cholesterol and to
reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.

The Acai Berry has a number of other nutritional constituents including vitamin E,
calcium, iron and magnesium. \"The fruit has no sugar, and a low glycaemic load\" -
Mike Law, http://www.whatismonavie.com/mikelaw

Tests for something called the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) index, a
recognized definitive measure of oxidation potential capacity, show that the Acai
Berry has an antioxidant capacity superior to other fruits, and four to six times
that of Blueberries. As yet, there is no established recommended daily intake of
antioxidants but research out of the US suggests anywhere between 3,500 and 8,000
ORAC units per day.
